Opening Luncheon: 2010 Housing Market Forecast
Presented by
Leslie Appleton-Young
As 2009 heads to a close, the California real estate market remains one of sharp contrasts. Prices in distressed markets are showing signs of bottoming, as unprecedented demand for highly discounted distressed properties outpaces supply.  Sales, however, are being constrained by a severe shortage of listings.  At the higher end of the price spectrum, financing challenges for jumbo loans coupled with unrealistic seller expectations are keeping activity muted.  Looking ahead to 2010, both the length of the current recession and the outlook for regulatory and legislative remedies are key unknowns.

Where is the market headed and what are the emerging opportunities out there for REALTORS®?  Prepare for the year ahead by joining C.A.R. Chief Economist Leslie Appleton-Young for the 2010 Housing Market Forecast, where she will share valuable information and insights about California’s housing market, including projected home sales, median prices, housing affordability, and mortgage rates and availability.

Seniors Real Estate Specialist® Designation Program

Presenter: Joanna Phillips
Adults aged 50 plus represent more than 20 percent of the U.S. population. For most senior adults, the homes they live in are their largest asset and account for most of their net worth.

Why do clients in this age range move? To be closer to grandchildren. To start that vineyard they've always dreamed of. To address health concerns. The list goes on and on. Can you speak to the unique motivations they have? Do you know how to counsel your clients on their options? Completion of the Seniors Real Estate Specialist® (SRES®) Designation Course is an essential step for REALTORS® in understanding the distinct real estate goals, concerns, and needs of today’s seniors.  This is the kind of distinction that can set you apart. You can be the hero.

This course looks at key differences in housing options, from age-restricted communities to age-in-place designs to assisted living; applications of the Housing for Older Persons Act (HOPA); the ins and outs of reverse mortgages; the use of pensions, 40(k) accounts, and IRAs in real estate transactions; and developing a team of senior specialists, including estate planners, reverse mortgage lenders, clutter and staging specialists, and more.

Seniors Real Estate Specialists® are REALTORS® qualified to meet the special needs and concerns of maturing Americans. By earning the SRES® designation, you will have demonstrated the requisite knowledge and expertise to counsel older clients through major financial lifestyle transitions involved in relocating, refinancing, or selling the family home.  You will earn 12 DRE continuing education credit hours in Consumer Service for completing this course.  This is a two-day course and must be attended both days.

Fees apply.

Seminar offered Thursday, Oct. 8 and Friday, Oct. 9, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This is a two-day course and must be attended both days.
